Donating part or all of your estate to charity will not only benefit the charity but could reduce the amount of tax your other beneficiaries have to pay on your estate. It's easy to include a charity in your Will, but you should always consult a professional such as a solicitor to be sure your Will reflects your exact intentions.
Many people would like to give money to charity, but feel they have responsibilities to their families while they are still alive. Or they want to do something good with part of their money after they die. The way to do it is to create a legacy (leaving something to your favourite charity in your will). Inheritance tax does not apply to gifts made to charities in your will. See our Wills, Probate, Trusts section.

Our chosen charity for 2010 is The Stroke Association
HilliersHRW Solicitors are also proud to support a number of other charities including:
Road Victims Trust, a charity providing care and assistance to those affected by life changing injuries or death as a result of road traffic collisions.
Leonard Cheshire Disability. Its principal activity in the UK is the provision of services in support of disabled people in the widest context. These services include care homes, supported living, domiciliary support, day services, resource centres, rehabilitation, respite care, personal support and training and assistance for those looking for work
Stevenage Community Trust. Stevenage Community Trust is an independent registered charity that works with local businesses and the local community for mutual benefit. It began almost twenty years ago and to date has awarded grants totalling almost £800,000. Grants are awarded quarterly and local groups are supported in various ways. The Trust is also able to respond to individuals in need via a third party referral and can offer speedy financial help when required. The current grant budget is £65,000 and in order to maintain this it raises funds through business membership, fund raising events and donations. The emphasis is on local as the Trust covers Stevenage and the surrounding villages. The Trust receives no statutory funding so is very grateful to all our members who regularly contribute to us and all our supporters each year. Registered Charity No. 1000762.
Wooden Spoon, the children's charity of the rugby world. For 25 years Spoon has harnessed the spirit and values of rugby to give disadvantaged children in Britain and Ireland a chance to achieve their full potential in life.
Bedford Hospitals Charity raises money to pay for projects and equipment at Bedford Hospital. It has raised over £6.5 million since it was founded in 1988. The most notable project was the Primrose Appeal which raised £2.5 million for a highly-regarded Cancer Unit. The current project is to raise £200,000 for the Maternity Unit. The charity is always grateful to be remembered in legacies and bequests, and has produced a leaflet with information on how to do it.
